Kakharu Phula Bara (Pumpkin Flower Fitters)

When we finalized our house last year, first thing I started doing was preserving pumpkin seeds from the pumpkins that I bought in the hope that once I am settled down I will plant them. I did that and everyday I would wake up and see if the seedling has popped but unfortunately nothing happened so frustrated and desperate I went to home depot and grabbed a pack of pumpkin seeds and wala I have a garden full of pumpkin plant spreading all over.  People plant a vegetable in the hope of fruit but I planted in the hope of loving flowers and greens ;)
If you plant pumpkins you would realize that initialing you get only 1-2 flowers a day and that too they die by the mid of the day. So what you can do is, pick flowers early in the morning and store then in a ziplock pack till you collect enough for everybody.
Ingredients: Pumpkin Flowers : 20 Rice: 1/3 cupGarlic: 4 podsCumin seeds: 1 tspWhole Dry Red Chilli: 2-4 (depending on how spicy the chillies are and how spicy u want the fitters to be)Salt…

Chingudi Chadchadi

As I have mentioned in many of my post, I grew up eating a lot of fish and shrimp. My brother always preferred shrimp over fish and his favorite preparation was the one my Mausi made. Its a dry preparation with mustard paste. It is generally prepared with smaller shrimps but as I had only the medium sized one's from the Costco, I used them. But if you can find some small ones it would be perfect. Ingredients: Small Shrimp: 1/2 pound with scale and cleaned.Mustard Paste: 2tbsp ( grind, 2 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds and 5-6 cloves of garlic pod)Onion: 1 medium finely choppedPancha Phutan: 1 tspWhole Green Chilli: 2-3Turmeric Powder: 1 tspOil: 1 tbspSalt as per taste
Procedure:
Marinate the prawns in little salt and pinch of turmeric for 5-10 mind. In a kadhai or frying pan heat oil and fry the shrimp for 2-3 minutes or till it turns slight pink on all sides.  Remove the shrimp and to the same pan add pancha phutan and let it crackle. As it stops crackling add the chopped onion with …

Zeera Rice

I started cooking during my stay in Delhi, and slowly I graduated from a single stove kitchen to a full fledged kitchen. But there were times when I would run out of gas and the gas guy won't deliver for a day or two. So the alternative would be eating at office cafe, but this option won't help over the weekend, so I would order food delivery from this restaurant that I have never seen in person, but I would always order the same menu, zeera rice, dal fry and chilli chicken. This made the best zeera rice and dal fry, chilli chicken was ok. But the rice and dal was out of the world. So I keep going to zeera rice every time I crave something really decadent  and easy. Ingredients: Basmati Rice: 1 cup cookedOnion: 1 medium thinly slicedGreen Chilli: 2-3 slicedZeera ( cumin): 1 tbspOil: 1 tbspSalt to taste. Procedure: In a kadhai heat oil. As the oil heats up add the cumin seeds and as they stop spluttering add the green chilli and onion slices with a pinch of salt and cook till the on…
